Hydrogenation of Alkynes with the Lindlar catalyst
Hydrogenation of Alkynes with Lindlar Catalyst: Introduction
Reaction principle
Heterogeneous catalytic hydrogenation of alkynes proceeds via alkenes to alkanes. The reaction can be stopped at the alkene stage if a partially poisoned catalyst is used, for example a Lindlar catalyst (Pd/CaCO3 poisoned with Pb(OAc)2 ). The reaction requires one equivalent of hydrogen.
