Oxidation of Tertiary Amines to Amine Oxides
Oxidation of Tertiary Amines to Amine Oxides: Experimental Procedure
A 30% solution of hydrogen peroxide is added to a solution of the amine in methanol. After stirring the mixture either at room temperature or with light heating, excess hydrogen peroxide is destroyed by the addition of colloidal platinum. After filtration and evaporation of the filtrate, the crude amine oxide is obtained in yields higher than 90%.
