Epoxidation of Alkenes with Peracids

Epoxidation of Alkenes with Peracids: Biological Importance

In animal organisms, epoxidation plays an important role in the degradation of condensed aromatic hydrocarbons.

For example, in the liver the enzyme cytochrome P450 transforms benzpyrene to a diepoxide considered to be a strong carcinogen.
