The illustration shows that allyl cations are more stable than vinyl cations and secondary vinyl cations are more stable than primary vinyl cations. Alkyl carbenium ions are the more stable the higher the stabilization by hyperconjugation and the +I effects of the alkyl substituents. Primary carbenium ions are more stable the longer the alkyl substituent chain.
