Metallic Crystals - The Structures of Pure Metals
Cubic Closest-Packed Structure
Both of the models on this page show that the layer of red spheres in the background is rotated by 60° around the primary axis relative to the overlying yellow spheres. In the space-filling model it is possible to see the red level through the holes in the gray level that are unoccupied by yellow spheres.
The cubic closest-packed structure is equivalent to the face-centered cubic structure. This can be shown by standing a unit cell of the face-centered cubic structure on its corner.
