tautomerismZoomA-Z

Subject - General Chemistry

The term tautomerism descibes a special type of isomerism. It descibes molecules which exist in two forms which interconvert by rearrangement and are in chemical equilibrium with each other. Tautomerism can be considered a chemical reaction and is symbolized in chemical graphics by a double arrow. The term tautomerism should not be confused with mesomerism in which several resonance structures approximately describe only one structure.
