sp2 hybridizationZoomA-Z

Subject - General Chemistry

The linear combination of one s orbital and two p orbitals leads to three equivalent orbitals which are pointed to the corners of an equilateral triangle (trigonal), thereby forming an angle of 120°. This process is defined as hybridization and the resulting orbitals are called $sp2$ hybrid orbitals. These orbitals show 1/3 s and 2/3 p character.
