Polystyrenes (PS) are polymers mainly consisting of styrene units. Among the homopolymers, isotactic, syndiotactic and atactic polystyrenes are known, but only the latter, the so-called standard polystyrene, and the syndiotactic version are of economic importance. Copolymers with a high degree of styrene units are also considered polystyrenes. Of considerable economic importance are copolymers with butadiene which as comonomer significantly improves the impact strength of polystyrene.
