Enols are α,β-unsaturated alcohols. With ketones, enols form a tautomeric equilibrium (keto-enol tautomerism), which for simple enols is is completely shifted to the side of the carbonyl compound. Varying amounts of enols are detected in the equilibrium if the enol form is stabilized, for example in 1,2-β-dicarbonyl compounds. .
