Ecological Quality StandardsZoomA-Z

Ecological Quality Standards is a goal which specifies a target for environmental quality. The EQS is set as a target to be used in monitoring by the regulatory agencies. For example, for the passage of migratory fish in estauries, the minimum dissolved oxygen requirement of 3 to 5 mg l-1 should be attained, e.g. that the dissolved oxygen levels in the water should not fall below 5 mg/l. As long as this is exceeded then the goal that migratory fish should pass at all stages of the tide, will be kept.
