Subject - Organic Chemistry

Acyl chlorides are important compounds in preparative chemistry. They have the general formula R-CO-Cl. Well known acyl chlorides are acetyl chloride (CH3COCl) and benzoyl chloride (C6H5COCl). Acyl chlorides are prepared from carboxylic acids and thionyl chloride, phosphorus trichloride or phosphorus pentachloride, for example.
